Your Daily Dose of Rachel

wordpainting:

A couple that reads together stays together.

It’s what they don’t tell you when you start out: that things just blow until they don’t blow so much anymore. It’s not eloquent, but it’s true. Things are hard until they’re not. Things are strange until you’re used to them. Things hurt not until they don’t hurt anymore, but until you become stronger than the pain.

[T]he world is too much with us, and we are too much with ourselves. We need sometimes to escape into open solitudes, into aimlessness, into the moral holiday of running some pure hazard, in order to sharpen the edge of life, to taste hardship, and to be compelled to work desperately for a moment no matter what.
George Santayana, “The Philosophy of Travel”
I bet if we dusted her heart for fingerprints, we’d only find yours.

Marry your best friend. I do not say that lightly. Really, truly find the strongest, happiest friendship in the person you fall in love with. Someone who speaks highly of you. Someone you can laugh with. The kind of laughs that make your belly ache, and your nose snort. The embarrassing, earnest, healing kind of laughs. Wit is important. Life is too short not to love someone who lets you be a fool with them. Make sure they are somebody who lets you cry, too. Despair will come. Find someone that you want to be there with you through those times. Most importantly, marry the one that makes passion, love, and madness combine and course through you. A love that will never dilute - even when the waters get deep, and dark.

Take a day to heal from the lies you’ve told yourself and the ones that have been told to you.
